A few months ago we had a huge green bean harvest.
Green beans are a huge staple in our house. They are probably my favorite green vegetable. My mom always cooked green beans on the stove for hours. She usually added ham or bacon and let them cook down.
I also have memories of me and my sister being small children sitting with my grandmother, snapping and stringing beans. So the idea of growing my own beans, canning them, and making them like my mom and my grandma was kinda cool.
My husband and I took a couple of hours one evening and picked all the beans. There were A LOT of beans! The plan was to can most of them.
My husband rarely throws things away. And to my “not so” surprise, he had a pressure canner in the garage. Lol. We bought some extra jars and some more lids but other than that we had all the things we needed. He even has a book about canning. (This is not surprising to anyone that knows him.)
I called my 91 year old grandmother and said “we have a problem“. She said oh no what is it? I said “we have too many beans and I need help stringing them.”
So I went and picked her up and she spent a few hours with us that evening. She said she had a great time and it was nice sitting at the table with her again stringing beans.
After I took My grandmother home that evening we canned all the green beans. We got over 10 quarts of green beans canned that night.
They look delicious and I cannot wait to try them!
UPDATE: They are delicious!!
